How dangerous is venezuela right now?

My orchestra is thinking about touring in either Venezuela or Italy next spring, and I, personally, am opting for Italy. I have heard that Venezuela is a really scary place to go. Can you tell me to what extent is this true, list the dangers, and tell me how Venezuela relates (danger levels) to other scary countries? Thank you!
