20 month old sleep issues?

my son has been in a toddler bed since he was 15 months old, he is now 20 months old. There has only been 1 night in that 5 months that he has slept his usual 12 hours.About 2.5 months ago he got sick so was sleeping in my bed with me and its continued ever since. I found out that I really enjoy the late night sleepy cuddles from him, and he loves his mummy to snuggle up to. I am thinking I'm almost ready for him to be sleeping in his own bed again as he will be two in 3.5 months. How do i go about this? Whenever i have tried it the last few weeks he has screamed at me, or cried, or said "sleep in your bed mummy". Help please?
